Unconventional Travel Essentials

Updated: Apr 14, 2022

Here's my list of the most unconventional but essential things to pack when travelling. I can assure you they'll make your life easier. All of them are available online (Click the links to open them in a new window). I'll update this list whenever I discover something new.

These have got to be the most important addition to all my bags when travelling. While I originally used Tile's Trackers, I shifted to Apple's AirTags when they launched and it's absolutely worth the money. My luggage accidentally got picked up by another passenger at Dubai airport recently, and the AirTag did a great job of keeping a track of where it was at all times (I was even able to tell the airline where it was when they had no clue). If you're an Android user, the Tile Trackers might be a better (though less effective) option for you.

Whether you’re staying in a 5 star hotel, an airbnb or a friends place, we now travel with way more devices than we used to. I’ve usually got my laptop, phone, watch, battery pack & 360 camera… and all of these need to be charged at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

Now i’ve stayed at hotels that were smart enough to have multiple charging points and usb ports… but you never know. So be prepared.

An alternative to this is the Anker Premium 60W 5-Port Desktop Charger. This allows up to 5 devices to be charged at the same time and comes in really handy when travelling or even at home.

Travelling with a roommate? Sharing a loo? Too much curry for dinner? Poo Pourri solves those aromatic problems. I picked up a couple from Sainsbury’s in the UK but you can probably ship them all over the world.

Don’t waste your money buying the (almost always) expensive options available at airport stores. Pick up this basic travel adapter that will fit into sockets around the world. Plug your extension board into it and add a multi-plug and you’ve got enough charging points for all your accessories.

There is nothing worse than travelling to countries that aren’t enlightened enough to use water to clean themselves and still stick to the awfulness that is dry toilet paper. This clever little product (available on Amazon India for less than 300 rupees) is a real life saver/poop cleaner. Still unconvinced? Don't get stuck watching the inflight movie with those horrid freebie earphones. Plug in your own fancy headphones with this adapter.

Make sure your luggage is within the allowed weight & avoid those excruciating excess baggage charges at the airport.

Make sure it’s powerful enough & has at least 2 charging ports. For the iPhone, I use the Anker 622 which is Magsafe compatible
