Diet Destroyers In London
There’s such an incredible variety of food available in London, it’s hard to pick favourites. While I didn’t get to try everything I wanted to, I would pick these (for now) as some of the definite ‘must-haves’ when in this gorgeous city. I hope to be back soon and update the list. Any recommendations? Leave your comments below.
Smokestak (Shoreditch)
Beef Brisket with Mustard Barbeque Sauce
If you have time for just one meal in London, head to Shoreditch and find Smokestak
(I recommend making a reservation) Ask for the Beef Brisket with Mustard Barbeque and when you’re done, order the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Clotted Cream Gelato.
Kappacasein (Borough Market)
Melted cheese on a pile of potatoes, gherkins and pickled onions
I saw a video of this place years ago and knew I would eventually find my way to their shop at Borough Market.
(also, you can’t call yourself a foodie and not spend a day at Borough Market)
You can also try their toasted cheese sandwiches, made with Montgomery cheddar, onions, leeks and garlic on sourdough.
Brindisa Grill (Borough Market)
Chorizo Rolls
Spicy chorizo, sandwiched in a sliced ciabatta with peppers and rocket leaves
Why have just one when you can have two for double the price?
Cheese & Onion Sandwiches
I have no idea why I tripped on these sandwiches so much. They’re so simple and delicious and available at all the supermarkets.
Crumbs & Doilies (Carnaby Street)
Cupcake Jemma has been my go-to guru for cupcake recipes on youtube. Her store is in Soho and you should definitely visit if you’re in the area.
Eton Mess Cupcake & Crackle Cookie
Brick Lane Beigel Bake (Shoreditch)
Salt Beef Beigel
Salt. Beef. Beigel.
Why Beigel and not Bagel? Click here.
Afternoon Tea
While not as overrated as I thought it would be, most afternoon tea packages are definitely overpriced. Do take a look at Groupon for some reasonably priced offers and book in advance.
(closed for now but hoping they open again)
Dominique Ansel Bakery (Belgravia)
Cronuts
Invented by pastry chef Dominique Ansel in New York in 2013, these Croissant/Doughnut hybrids are worth the line you usually have to stand in to pick them up.
Each month is a different flavour. This was White Peach & Rose. It’s filled with white peach jam and creamy rose ganache.
Order them online in advance coz they do sell out quickly (and you get to skip the line)
